Purpose The position exists to increase productivity, product quality, safety, and profitability of TimkenSteel.
The Electrical Engineer’s primary function is to lead engineering projects from conceptualization to full installation – developing plans, creating budgets, writing AR’s, coordinating engineering and support personnel, developing construction schedules, purchasing equipment, training operators and maintainers, and debugging equipment in order to support steel manufacturing operations continuous improvement efforts.
The engineer conducts feasibility studies and engineering analyses, directs outside engineering work, develops project schedules, controls spending, creates specifications, manages field construction, and ensures accurate documentation.
Responsibilities Project Management – Develop and manage capital, continuous improvement, and assigned maintenance projects from conceptualization to final installation while meeting customer expectations in terms of budgets, functionality, and schedule.
These projects may range from a few thousand dollars to a few million dollars ($5,000 - $5M).
Electrical Engineer is responsible for writing specifications for purchase of equipment, guiding equipment engineering, procuring or performing the installation engineering, writing installation specifications, selection of installation contractors, assuring compliance with all OSHA safety regulations in the design, and Management of Change.
Electrical Engineer should also have a basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, piping, mechanical equipment, electrical components, sensors, process controls, ergonomics, workflow and construction principles.
Electrical Design – Develop concepts and/or fully-engineered drawings to address engineering service requests.
When necessary, manage costs and quality of outside engineering firms, contractors and maintenance personnel related to service request implementation, execution, and completion.
Technical Assistance and Troubleshooting – Assist operations, maintenance, and management with electrical issues and questions promptly to minimize disruptions.
Help improve reliability, minimize downtime, and ensure optimal performance of electrical systems, including transformers, motors, switchgear, AC/DC drives, and control panels, with a particular emphasis on design, troubleshooting and start up.
Communication and Collaboration – Ability to communicate with internal customers and cross-functional teams in the form of both written and verbal reports.
Development and delivery of presentations and updates when called upon to do so with stakeholders for project status reviews.
Electrical Engineers will also initiate and facilitate meetings and communications as necessary for completion of projects.
Documentation – Maintain accurate prints and standards within applicable systems (e.
g.
Adept, GIS, Document Management, PLC MOC logs) to include schematics, project logs, and equipment manuals.
Use ACAD to document revisions and changes to electronic drawings.
Have a keen ability and understanding on the long-term impacts that updating documentation has on the design for reliability.
Technical Skills Able to self-manage competing deadlines and priorities.
Supervising internal engineers, outside engineering firms, contractors, and maintenance personnel.
Able to communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated knowledge of power distribution systems, controls, and electrical construction techniques.
Electrical/Electronic troubleshooting.
Knowledge in PLCs and Electrical Controls.
