SUMMARY: The Specialty Products Sales Engineer’s primary function is to provide an inside sales presence to all of our Specialty Products customers including providing quotes, writing up order, negotiating sales, and value engineering projects.
Secondly, this role will estimate projects and perform material take‐offs from plans & specifications or customer erection drawings and identify bid scope.
This position will determine job complexity, interpret the course of actions, and communicate with our customer and appropriate OGI departments, while coordinating with the Specialty Products Sales Manager and Specialty Products Manager.
In addition, he or she will be responsible for maintain and further developing relationship with our current customer base and new clients with in the Specialty Products Market.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Reads, interprets, and reviews grating products on Contract Drawings, and or erection drawings.
Read and interpret specifications and identify project specific requirements from related bid documents.
Works with our team to develop the best possible product for each given project including our Project Management, Engineering and sales departments.
Determines quantities and costs on individual projects as well as working with our customers, Specialty Products Manager and Engineering department on value engineering opportunities.
Maintain proper tracking of all projects, bidders’ lists, and specialty projects within the market segment.
Coordinate any project hand‐offs with the project manager assigned to take the project.
Order Entry for all projects within the market segment.
Keep personal and common work areas clean, neat and organized.
Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
Communication and Value Engineering: Requires the ability to build relationships with customers.
Communicate clearly with customers, manager, and other OGI departments.
Review and recommend specific grating products as needed and value engineer where applicable.
Takeoff: Review drawings and specifications provided to develop an accurate material takeoff which is to scope and per NAAMM estimating standards or based on customer erection drawings.
Ensure takeoff is based on the proper drawing and specification revisions or qualify cut list.
Ensure the bid documents and scope of work are followed.
Request needed buyout items from source vendors.
Proposal: Qualify all conflicts between drawings and specifications whether or not they are resolved with the customer prior to bidding.
Clearly list all inclusions and exclusions found during the takeoff, qualifying anything being offered where discrepancies were found Prepare qualified proposal per bid documents and per scope of work or customer erection drawings EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES: A student working towards a 4 year B.

degree in engineering, mechanical, civil or structural engineering and sales experience in metals arena is preferred.
Experience with Structural Steel Drawings and a high level of understanding Project Bid Cycle is also desired or willingness to learn.
Experience in estimating and sales is preferred, along with excellent customer service and relationship building skills desired or willingness to learn.
Must be team oriented and versatile.
Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) suite of applications.
Must be extremely organized and capable of handling a high volume of estimates and quotes while maintaining focus on the details and accuracy of the projects assigned.
