JOB TITLE: *Food Service Assistant*
27-30 hrs/wk, Part-Time
32-35 hrs/wk, Part-Time

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the management, service and food preparation and clean up for the Head Start Center.
Participate in a team process to implement the Head Start Program.
*QUALIFICATIONS * *Education & Experience: * * High School Diploma or equivalent required.
ServSafe Certification Level 1 and Department of Health Food Protection Certification preferred.
* Cooking experience required.
Experience cooking for a group and working with preschool children preferred.
*Eligibility Limitations: * * Must successfully pass criminal records check and drug screening as per agency and funding requirements.
Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and clearance to drive HARCATUS Vehicles.
Travel throughout the Agency’s service area of Harrison, Carroll, and Tuscarawas Counties in Ohio.
Proof of a physical exam with tuberculosis assessment by a licensed Physician to verify physical and mental fitness for the position at time of employment and triennially unless a medical exam is needed more often.

* Demonstrate flexibility, willingness, and commitment to attend professional and program meetings.
* Maintain current training in blood borne pathogens, communicable diseases, child abuse, child CPR, and first aid which is a requirement of all HARCATUS Head Start employees.
* Engage in on-going staff development to meet professional development requirements and improve personal and professional skills, including overnight when necessary.
* Implements a nutritious food program, following the guidelines established by the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
* Promotes healthy eating practices among children, parents, and co-workers.
* Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of nutritious meals and snacks.
* Maintains good sanitation and safety practices, including personal appearance and hygiene.
* Oversees and trains aides and volunteers working in the kitchen/dining room ensuring that all food safety and sanitation regulations are being followed, including personal appearance and hygiene.
* Ensure that all food preparation and distribution adheres to health department regulations for food safety and sanitation as well as posting all necessary health and safety information.
* Assists in the classroom and bus aides as needed.
* Maintains on-going cleanliness of materials, equipment, and facilities and report any concerns to the Teacher.
* After each meal ensure that: * Tables are cleaned and sanitized * Chairs cleaned * Dining room floor swept * Trash emptied and taken to the dumpster * Leftover food dispersed of, no food is taken home.
* Maintains records pertaining to the food service operations as required by both Head Start and the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
* Purchase and maintain proper ordering and receiving of foods to assure quality and cost control.
Adjusts quantities as needed.
* Control waste of food by decreasing the number of meals prepared or ordered as needed.
* Ensures that monthly reports are received at the Central Office by the 5th of each month.
* Communicates with the Teacher all pertinent information concerning children and families.
* Participate in nutrition education as needed by assisting in the planning and/or implementing of hands-on activities that help to develop a positive self-esteem.
* Help implement culturally diverse experiences.
* Participate in food related learning activities by including children in assisting with preparation and clean-up of meals.
* Assist children to be independent at mealtime by encouraging them to serve themselves.
Using and promoting positive guidance techniques at mealtime.
* Encourage parents to participate in the program.
* Participate in the recruitment of children (i.

, when out getting supplies make sure recruitment flyers are full).
