Position Description
Position Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Reports To: Operations Director
*Classification: *Hourly; non exempt
Attendance at HIPAA and compliance educational programs is a requirement of employment.
*SUMMARY:* In an outpatient clinical setting, assists with direct patient care and performs medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol.
The The LPN provides general nursing care to patients of all ages, gender, cultures and backgrounds in the clinical setting.
In addition, laboratory and offices duties are performed as needed.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:* * Greets and escorts patients to exam room for medical provider visit.
Obtains and documents subjective and objective data accurately and concisely.
* Communicates to provider information about patient, patient problems, needs, or changes in patient status.
* Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; assists in obtaining patient histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical examinations.
* Performs routine specialized procedures such as EKG, suture/staple removal, ear irrigation, nebulizer treatments, and sterile dressing changes, etc.
* Performs lab/diagnostic testing (i.
e.
urine dip, pregnancy test, rapid covid tests) as ordered by provider while utilizing universal precautions; reports all critical lab values to immediately; performs quality controls and maintains all laboratory/diagnostic test logs.
* Administers medications or treatments (per scope of practice) to the patient as ordered by the provider or delegated by a registered nurse.
Utilizes proper procedure with special consideration for patient safety.
* Anticipates and prepares exam room with equipment and supplies required for the visit, including mobile translation ipad; assists the health care team with exams and procedures.
* Communicates clearly, concisely and accurately, creating a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
* Acts in a professional manner, reflecting the Mission and Vision of Lifecare FHDC.
* Treats all patients, vendors, and coworkers with dignity and respect.
* Maintains inventories and stocks medicines, vaccines, immunizations and medical supplies as necessary.
* Maintains knowledge and expertise pertaining to OSHA and CLIA standards.
* Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
* Records/Monitors refrigerator temperature and controls on all lab equipment/tests.
* Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues as directed by the provider.
* Reviews discharge instructions.
* Retrieves lab reports and tests from other health care organizations.
* May participate in outreach clinical activities as required.
* Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
* Demonstrates an ability to remain calm, utilize effective de-escalation techniques, and perform effectively and professionally during peak periods of activity and emergency situations.
*MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:* * Licensed Practical Nurse * Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
* Prior experience with OSHA, CLIA, Safety, and Immunizations highly preferred.
* BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:* * Development, Communication and Organizational skills.
* Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
* Ability to perform routine invasive procedures, such as EKG, FBS, suture/staple removal, ear irrigation, and nebulizer treatments etal.
* Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
* Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
* Knowledge of inventory management practices.
* Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
* Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
* Knowledge of outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
* The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required.
* Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
*CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:* * Must be willing to submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check if requested.
* May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
* Lifecare Family Health will provide Hepatitis A/B vaccinations; candidate may decline vaccinations in writing or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
* A pre-employment background investigation may be required.
*WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:* Prolonged sitting or standing may be required.
Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with nursing duties in a clinic office setting will be performed on a repetitive basis.
This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking.
The ability to sustain moderate physical activity, handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day is expected.
The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required.
Working under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.
