Purpose
The mission of the Internal Audit department is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve TimkenSteel operations.
The Internal Audit department assists TimkenSteel in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.
Under direct supervision of Senior Director, Internal Audit, the auditor is responsible for the timely execution of risk-based internal audits in accordance with the annual audit plan as well as assisting with other audit-related matters and projects.
This role is considered a developmental role with the opportunity to transition to another role within the business.
Responsibilities
Offer insights on projects to ensure that risks are considered and controls are built into a process on the front-end (e.
g.
, mergers and acquisitions, new technology implementation, etc.
).
Develop an understanding of organizational risks and evaluate the effectiveness of risk management efforts.
Develop recommendations to improve risk management.
Help plan and perform audits to evaluate whether the controls in place are adequate to respond to the risks that threaten the organization, including the reliability and integrity of financial and operational information.
Report findings and recommend appropriate courses of action.
Review processes and procedures and assess whether existing processes are well designed to help the organization achieve its goals.
Assess the organization’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and contracts.
Evaluate the procedures used to safeguard assets from loss.
Make recommendations for enhanced protection.
Track status of open management action plans and perform follow-up procedures to close out action plans.
Assist with preparing audit committee meeting materials.
Develop healthy, deep relationships with all levels of the business.
Remain current on new audit techniques and work with the internal audit team to implement, if appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related; with 2 years of finance or audit experience; OR
Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related; with 4 years of finance or audit experience; OR
Master's degree in accounting, finance, or related; with 2 years of finance or audit experience
CPA or CIA credentials
Technical/Functional Skills
Ability to understand, document, and analyze complex details
Strong verbal and written communication
Strong research skills
Familiarity with accounting policies and theory
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects on time and within budget
High levels of integrity and ethical standards
Understanding of business processes, audit/project management, and technology integrations
